A workshop led by Deborah Sharp Molchan, Ph.D. To be alive, is to experience stress and anxiety occasionally. There are times in all of our lives in which stress feels disturbingly high. For many of us, stress may be the result of living our lives out-of- balance. Through mindfulness meditation practices we can learn to cultivate compassionate awareness of our stressful thoughts and feelings which improves our ability to respond to stressful situations. Together we will engage in mindfulness exercises developed to enhance moment-to- moment nonjudgmental awareness of bodily sensations, thoughts, and emotions. In this group, we will engage in meditation exercises designed to enhance awareness of living on “automatic pilot” versus living with conscious awareness, relating to experience through directly sensing experience, and being fully in the present moment (Teasdale, Williams, & Segal, 2014). Enjoy the many benefits of a mindfulness meditation practice including reduced stress, improved thinking, attention, and memory, increased compassion, an improved immune system, increased self-insight, intuition, and morality, reduced high blood pressure and decreased psychological distress (Davis & Hayes, 2012). All participants are welcome from beginners to long-time meditators. Dress in comfortable clothing and bring a curious mind. This class is not a physical yoga class. We will be engaged in sitting meditation, and lying on a yoga mat for mindfulness exercises. You will be provided with all materials necessary for this class including a CD to take home for practice, and chocolate for awakening to your senses. Cost is $30.
